Armenia Rejects New Azerbaijani Claim About Ceasefire Violation

Military authorities in Yerevan have once again refuted allegations from Baku that Armenian forces fired at Azerbaijani army positions at the border.

In a statement released early on Friday Azerbaijan accused Armenian troops of using firearms to target Azerbaijani army positions near Sadarak, a district in Azerbaijan’s western exclave of Nakhichevan.

This follows a similar accusation made on Thursday evening, when Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense claimed that Armenian forces fired at Azerbaijani positions in the Ordubad district of Nakhichevan.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense dismissed both reports as “disinformation.” It reiterated Yerevan’s proposal for a bilateral mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations.

“Through diplomatic channels, the office of the Armenian prime minister proposed to the office of the president of Azerbaijan the creation of a bilateral mechanism to investigate cases of ceasefire violations,” the Armenian ministry stated.

Official Baku has not yet responded to Armenia’s repeated proposals for such a mechanism.
