Samvel Nikoyan, the chairman of the Armenian parliamentary commission investigating the March 1 clashes in Yerevan, tells “Aravot” that he is not troubled by the possibility of Armenia losing its voting rights in the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly. “Frankly, I care little about that because every person must do their job,” he says. “If everyone minded their business and thought little about how the Council of Europe will treat us, such a problem would hardly arise in the Council of Europe.”
“We must think about the stability of our country, our society, the internal atmosphere, rather than whether or not we will be stripped of our right to vote,” continues Nikoyan. He accuses the Council of Europe of seeking to impose a “color revolution” on Armenia. “I think that there will be no tragedy if [the head of the Armenian delegation at the PACE] David Harutiunian is unable to vote for a while,” he says.
Lragir.am comments on the gas dispute between Russia and Ukraine, saying that it is threatening to cause a “real energy crisis” in Europe. It suggests that the dispute might distract the PACE from the political situation in Armenia.
Levon Zurabian, a leading member of the Armenian National Congress (HAK), tells “Haykakan Zhamanak” that the opposition alliance has drawn up a new plan of its forthcoming activities. He says the HAK is continuing to form specialized working group that will play the role of a “shadow government.” “Three such committees have already been formed,” says Zurabian. He adds that the opposition’s own inquiry into the March 1 clashes has uncovered “quite serious facts” that have been sent to the Fact-Finding Group of Experts investigating the unrest.
