Sarkisian told supporters late Wednesday that opposition leaders disagreeing with him “will cry out the word ‘revolution’ more loudly than we do one month later.” “One famous politician once said, ‘If a person is young but not a revolutionary, that means he is a bastard. If a person is elderly but not conservative that means he is an idiot,” says Geghamian. He says his party will not join Sarkisian’s calls for another campaign of anti-government demonstrations “for the time being.”
“Iravunk” believes that Sarkisian and his Hanrapetutyun party will not take “drastic actions” before the August 18 meeting of the Artarutyun alliance which should finally ascertain the bloc’s position on the draft constitutional amendments. The paper says Hanrapetutyun does not want to completely alienate its Artarutyun allies. “On the other hand, Hanrapetutyun needs to avoid earning the reputation of an alliance destroyer.” Sarkisian will therefore “wait until the last moment.” Besides, Artarutyun itself may adopt a “radical position” on the issue, concludes the paper.
