(AFP) - UEFA is examining a special report from its senior official at the Armenia-Greece Euro 2004 qualifier last weekend before it decides if it will investigate allegations of attempted bribery, a spokesman said on Tuesday.
UEFA said it had not received a formal complaint from Armenian soccer officials at its headquarters, despite their public claims after the game last Saturday that the Greeks had tried to bribe players and officials to throw the match. Greece won the away tie in Yerevan 1-0.
"Following the allegations, we have requested that our match delegate provide a supplementary report on the allegations. The report has now been received and is being studied," UEFA spokesman Mike Lee told AFP.
"Once we have evaluated the report we will then decide if any further steps are needed. We will base our decision on whether to launch a formal investigation on this report," Lee added. Lee said the Greek football association had written to UEFA and refuted the allegations.
