The Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Tatul Markarian told our
correspondent on Thursday that the personal representatives of Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents in the Nagorno-Karabakh negotiating process will meet with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs second time in the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, to discuss Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. The three day meeting will start on July 29.
The OSCE Minsk Group American, Russian and French co-chairs first met with the personal representatives of the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents Araz Azimov and Tatul Markarian in Stirin castle near Prague last May, in an attempt to resume the negotiating process as they described in a new negotiating format. However, the closed door meeting produced no results and the press release issued after the first meeting was very vague. The deputy foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Araz Azimov later revealed that he was trying to negotiate a new high-level meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents Heidar Aliyev and Robert Kocharian. Apparently the Armenian and Azerbaijani top diplomats were could not agree on the venue and timing of the next Armenian-Azerbaijani presidents.
Tatul Markarian declined to reveal the agenda of the upcoming Prague
meeting but said that they will discuss some details of the so called
package solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He also said that they might continue talks on arranging another Armenian-Azerbaijani summit between Robert Kocharian and Heidar Aliyev.
Last month the OSCE Minsk Group US, Russian and French co-chairs had two separate meetings with Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents Robert Kocharian and Heidar Aliyev in Istanbul and Tallinn in an effort to jump start the negotiating process. However, there is no clear sign of whether US, Russian and French diplomats were able to achieve any progress.
