Armenia’s Transport and Communications Minister Andranik Manukian denied Thursday reports that he will be forced to step down soon.
Citing unspecified government sources, some newspapers have claimed that Manukian will be relieved of his duties because of the imminent failure of the government’s negotiations with the ArmenTel telecommunications monopoly.
But the minister dismissed the reports as “false,” arguing that he has not been in any way involved in the ArmenTel talks. He said the government side is exclusively represented by Justice Minister David Harutiunian.
Manukian worked as minister for state revenues until last July when President Robert Kocharian ordered him and then Transport Minister Yervand Zakharian to swap their posts. Manukian’s relations with Prime Minister Andranik Markarian were said to have deteriorated in the weeks leading up to the reshuffle.
