Armenian To Be Awarded Posthumously For Helping Jews In Nazi Concentration Camp
Armenian Harutyun Khachatrian, who is honored in the Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum in Jerusalem as a Righteous Among the Nations, will posthumously be awarded by the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation. The award on his behalf will be received by his family. Khachatrian, a military doctor with the Soviet Red Army, was taken prisoner during World War II. In the concentration camp where he was kept by the Nazis he helped many Jews as a physician. In connection with the award Azatutyun TV interviewed Daniel Rainer, Vice President of the Foundation based in Jerusalem. The interview was conducted by RFE/RL Armenian Service Director Harry Tamrazian.
