YEREVAN, (AP) - A natural-gas explosion ripped through a two-story home in Armenia on Monday, killing three members of a family and injuring two others, officials said.
The blast occurred at about 6 a.m. after a gas leak in the house in the city of Sevan, officials in the Emergency Situations Department said. It destroyed the home and killed a couple and their 6-year-old son. Two teenage boys were pulled from the rubble alive and hospitalized, officials said.
Explosions of gas used for cooking and heating are fairly common in the former Soviet Union. Five people in Armenia's Armavir region died last week after inhaling gas following a leak.
